From Nataly in Russia

Nataly chose to send me this postcard because it was a nice view of her home as well as some interesting architecture.

In addition to the view on the postcard, I also enjoyed the text. I’m so used to the English alphabet, it’s neat to see other letters from other languages. I started to pronounce the name of the city, then I got to that last letter! The Russian alphabet has 33 letters compared to the English alphabet with 26.

According to Wikipedia, that letter, “ж”, sounds like the “s” in a word like “pleasure.” I think it’s specifically the “zu” type sound. I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I love learning new things about other cultures, and Postcrossing helps me do that!

From Olga in Ukraine

I received a lovely postcard from Olga recently. She wrote on the back that she read I liked writing so she thought I’d enjoy the Ukrainian alphabet!

I do think this is very neat! The Ukrainian alphabet has seven more more letters than the English alphabet. I do love learning a bit about other cultures with these postcards! It’s a truly special experience!
